GEDU Global Education is a UK HQ’s Group of education institutions and businesses across 13 countries.
The Group’s other UK-based businesses are:
– MLA College, which delivers online degrees in maritime operations, engineering and sustainable development
– GBS, which is a HE institution founded in the UK in 2010. It now teaches over 35,000 students in 10 campuses across East and West London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester
– MetaGedu, which is an apprenticeship business
– GlobalU, which is an online HE learning platform
– EP, which is our English Language Teaching business. It has an expanding global presence, from Toronto to Brisbane.
The Group also contains:

This is a new role in a new team, being built by a recently appointed Managing Director for External Engagement and Sustainability to:
– Secure recognition for GEDU Global Education as a leading, UK HQ’d group of education businesses with an expanding global reach;
– Support the public policy objectives of the individual group companies; and
– Showcase and develop the Group’s activities that support achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Main Purpose of the Role
The main purpose of the UK-based Government Engagement and Public Policy Manager is to engage government officials, parliamentarians, think tanks and other influencers to represent GEDU Global Education’s priorities and build our profile and influence.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Support the Managing Director – External Engagement and Sustainability to build and execute a coherent, integrated government affairs strategy for the UK and wider Europe.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build effective networks and relationships with ministers, officials, parliamentarians, political advisers, think tanks and the Mayoral Combined Authorities in West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.
- Support the Managing Director in building our rofile and influence with government and other stakeholders engaged in international education/trade initiatives.
- Represent GEDU within trade bodies and industry groups focussed on policy linked to Higher Education, apprenticeships, life-long learning, and social mobility, ensuring impactful advocacy of GEDU’s positions.
- Policy monitoring and interpretation. Track and analyse developments in government policy, identify the opportunities and threats to GEDU and develop appropriate response plans with colleagues.
- Raise the profile of GEDU to positively create an understanding of the Group’s impact on the education environment in the UK and wider Europe.
- Produce briefing documents, presentations, letters and other communication materials for internal and external audiences.
- Maintain relationships with senior colleagues across the Group to maximise synergies and share best practice.
- Manage partners and suppliers, ensuring they deliver on time and budget
- Support the Managing Director and colleagues in priority European markets with policy and government affairs initiatives.
Essential Skills and Experience
- An excellent understanding of, and experience working within or alongside, the UK’s education policy environment;
- Relationship building with the ability to influence, using research-based arguments
- Outstanding communication skills – oral and written
- Experience of designing policy-focussed events
- Meticulous attention to detail
- strong organisational skills
- Proven teamworking skills and the ability to work effectively in an organisation that has multiple business functions and locations across the world.
- Has experience in writing executive-level briefings and papers
- Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable working in a digital environment
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and a collaborative team player
