The role
We are looking for an experienced Machine Operator to support the operations at our Preston site.
What you will be doing
- Operating plant machinery including 360 scrap handler, loading shovel, skid steer, FLT, shredder plus
- Undertaking the depollution of End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) – removing and storing parts safely (full training provided)
- Working on the picking line
- General yard work
- Responsible for ensuring the safe loading of containers on site
- Ensuring the safe movement and manoeuvring of vehicles on and off the container tilter loader
- Working closely with others, ensuring good communication and following instructions
- To work within and to adopt all H&S procedures that are in force at all the companies’ depots
- To inform management immediately of any defects that may cause any item of equipment to be either unsafe or unroadworthy
- To keep the yard clean and tidy and free from hazards
- Removing of catalytic converters from vehicles
- Any other ad-hoc duties required
The ideal candidate
- Recycling / scrap experience
- Experience of removing engines
- An ability to work under pressure, solve problems and provide a consistently positive contribution to the team
- Mechanical experience
- Machine experience (essential)
- You will also: ensure high standards of delivery and customer service; be determined, resilient and flexible; demonstrate a positive attitude
