We are seeking a talented Head of Geochemistry to help shape and lead our geochemistry function in Cambridge.
This is an exciting opportunity for a scientifically driven individual with a strong research background and a passion for developing innovative geochemical approaches.
You will have the opportunity to combine hands-on scientific expertise with technical leadership, helping to advance research programmes, strengthen laboratory capabilities and drive scientific excellence.
We are particularly interested in individuals who are ready to move beyond a purely academic research role and take ownership of developing a growing geochemistry capability.
What you'll be doing
- Provide scientific and technical leadership across geochemistry activities.
- Guide the development and delivery of geochemical research and experimental programmes.
- Drive the development and improvement of analytical methodologies and experimental approaches.
- Oversee the quality, integrity and interpretation of geochemical data and research outputs.
- Identify opportunities to expand technical capabilities and introduce innovative scientific methods.
- Work closely with laboratory and technical teams to translate research objectives into effective experimental programmes.
- Establish and maintain high standards of scientific quality, laboratory practice and technical excellence.
- Contribute to the longer-term development and direction of the geochemistry function.
- Build scientific relationships and contribute to relevant research collaborations and external partnerships.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues as the function develops.
What we're looking for
- A PhD in Geochemistry, Geology, Earth Sciences, Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
- Strong academic and technical foundations in geochemistry.
- Experience in geochemical research, experimental work and laboratory-based investigations.
- A good understanding of analytical methodologies and geochemical data interpretation.
- Evidence of scientific contribution through research, publications or relevant technical project work.
- The ability to take ownership of technical challenges and drive research activities forward.
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- An entrepreneurial mindset and enthusiasm for developing new scientific capabilities.
