We have an opportunity for an experienced, skilled butcher to join our team at Gloagburn Farm Shop. Our butchery provides an extensive and varied range of traditional and value-added products for retail as well as supplying our kitchen for restaurant service and production.
There is an opportunity for the right person to progress within the business to allow our current Butchery manager to phase in his retirement in 2026. It is essential that applicants have experience of retail, excellent butchery skills and the enthusiasm to develop the product and the team. You will be working in a customer-focused role and should enjoy creating an attractive and innovative counter and providing an excellent standard of service in order to grow the business.
The Job
- Producing and presenting an extensive range of traditional hand-finished products.
- Boning out, cutting and trimming lamb and pork and our own home-grown beef.
- Preparing value-added products to Gloagburn recipes.
- Working with the team to develop new products and seasonal items.
- Managing, motivating and developing a team of three butchers.
- Ensuring all products are labelled correctly and include all ingredient and allergen information.
- Serving at the butchery counter and providing an excellent standard of customer care and product knowledge.
- Working as part of the senior management team to maintain the Gloagburn brand and provide excellent customer service standards.
- Working in conjunction with our Head Chef to prepare meat for the production of menu items and dishes for retail in the farm shop.
- Preparing phone and online customer orders for collection or delivery.
- Adhering to an excellent standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the butchery and completing all necessary checklists and cleaning schedules.
- Processing orders and deliveries ensuring they are accurate, of the required quality and are received and stored correctly.

- Will be a good leader with excellent man management and team building skills.
- Will be a good communicator, working with owners, directors and managers to ensure consistency of the product and service.
- Will be cheerful, customer-focused and enthusiastic.
- Will have an excellent work ethic and thrive in a busy environment.
- Will be looking to develop and grow within the business with a view to promotion.
- Due to our rural location it is necessary for applicants to have access to their own transport.
