Glo AV is looking for an experienced

AV & Smart Home Installation Engineer to join our team, delivering high-end residential smart-home and audiovisual projects.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who takes real pride in the quality and detail of their work.

You will be responsible for completing installations to a consistently high standard, carrying out the necessary testing and checks, and handing systems over in a commission-ready condition.

The role

Your responsibilities will include

  • Installing and mounting TVs, displays, brackets and automated mounting solutions
  • Installing access points, network switches and other data equipment
  • Installing CCTV cameras, intercoms and door-entry equipment
  • Installing speakers and other AV equipment
  • Building, wiring and dressing AV and network racks
  • Terminating, patching, labelling and testing structured cabling
  • Installing and terminating lighting-control equipment, including Lutron systems
  • Installing smart-home control equipment and associated interfaces
  • Working accurately from drawings, schematics, elevations, rack layouts and cable schedules
  • Checking cable routes, terminations, network connections and signal paths
  • Carrying out basic equipment setup and configuration where required
  • Fault-finding and resolving installation issues before commissioning
  • Completing quality-control checks, installation checklists and snagging
  • Recording site changes and providing accurate as-built information
  • Producing clear progress updates, test results, photographs and handover notes
  • Preparing completed systems for handover to the commissioning engineer
  • Working professionally with clients, contractors, project managers and other trades
  • Maintaining a safe, tidy and organised working environment

Our engineers normally undertake cable checking, testing, termination, equipment installation and system preparation.

The role does not generally involve running the main first-fix cabling on new-build projects, although checking the quality and suitability of installed cabling is an important part of the position.

What we are looking for

The right person will have

  • Practical experience in residential AV, smart-home or related technical installations
  • Strong structured-cabling, termination, patching and testing skills
  • Good knowledge of IP networking, Ethernet and Wi-Fi
  • An understanding of IP addressing, network switches and VLANs
  • Experience installing TVs, speakers, access points, CCTV and rack equipment
  • The ability to read and work accurately from technical drawings and documentation
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent cable management, labelling and installation standards
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks
  • A methodical approach to testing, checking and documenting completed work
  • Good time management and the ability to communicate delays or problems early
  • A professional and respectful approach when working in high-end residential properties
  • A full UK driving licence
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Flexibility to travel to project sites and occasionally stay away, where required
  • Systems experience

Experience with the following would be particularly valuable

  • Lutron Home Works QSX
  • Data networking and Wi-Fi systems
  • Uni Fi or other managed networking platforms
  • CCTV and door-entry systems
  • Savant
  • Control4, Crestron Home or similar control systems
  • Distributed audio
  • Lighting-control panels
  • Motorised blinds, curtains and TV mechanisms
  • AV racks and associated equipment

Strong Lutron, networking and practical installation experience are the main priorities.

Savant knowledge would be a definite advantage, but full programming experience is not essential for this role.

CEDIA qualifications, manufacturer training, ECS/CSCS cards or relevant electrical and data qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential.

The right person

We are looking for more than someone who can simply install the equipment.

You should be someone who checks their work, keeps installations tidy, understands what “commission-ready” means and leaves every system in a condition that the commissioning engineer can confidently take forward.

You will be reliable, hardworking, technically capable and willing to take responsibility for delivering a properly finished installation.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Company vehicle or travel arrangements
  • Manufacturer and industry training
  • Opportunities to develop further into commissioning, programming or senior engineering
  • Interesting high-end residential projects
  • A supportive and experienced project and engineering team
