Herts Young Mariners Base is a spring-fed, 29-acre Outdoor Activity Centre in Cheshunt, providing a wide range of water-based and land-based outdoor activities. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced seasonal Outdoor Activities Instructor to join our team.
Our programme includes:
- Sailing
- Kayaking
- Paddleboarding
- Canoeing
- Raft Building
- Powerboating
- Climbing
- Caving
- Orienteering
- Problem Solving
These activities are delivered to a diverse range of users, including schools, youth groups, holiday courses for children, and public sessions for both children and adults, including RYA courses.
As an Outdoor Activities Instructor, you will lead groups independently across a range of activities, adapting sessions to suit the needs and abilities of each group. You will play an active role in developing new sessions and supporting the growth of our current client base. The role also includes working within the hire centre, hiring equipment such as kayaks and paddleboards, and ensuring a safe, welcoming experience for all users.
You will need to be confident working with people, comfortable speaking in front of large groups, and able to deliver excellent customer service. Strong and accurate safety briefings are a key part of the role. We have a strong focus on health and safety, so a good working knowledge of risk assessments and safe working practices is desirable, although full training will be provided.
As with all outdoor roles, the position includes general site duties such as equipment maintenance, administration, and cleaning. These tasks are shared across the team, and we pride ourselves on working collaboratively to provide the best possible experience for our customers.
We are looking for an instructor who is confident, motivated, and enthusiastic, able to take responsibility for leading sessions independently and managing the hire centre when senior staff are not on site. We are committed to staff development and can offer opportunities for additional training and ongoing personal development as an instructor.

- BCAB/Paddle UK Paddle Sports Instructor (or equivalent)
- BCAB/Paddle UK Coaching qualification

- Safeguarding Level 1
