GLL is looking for a Driver Assistant to work 35 hours per week, on a temporary 6 month contract to cover illness, based in Wandsworth to drive a van and make deliveries to library sites. You will be required to drive a vehicle to various locations across the borough to collect and deliver stock and other items as required.

Duties include:

  • Visiting libraries for delivery/collection of library materials, furniture, equipment and shop stock in Wandsworth.
  • Adhere to timetabled routes for daily and extra deliveries to provide an efficient, flexible and reliable service.
  • Delivery to other sites as required.
  • Maintaining the vehicle in a roadworthy condition, carrying out daily checks and completing a driver log and report any defects found.
  • Observing GLL’s accident reporting procedures for vehicles and other accidents.
  • Always ensuring the security of the van and contents, particularly overnight.
  • Ensure the inside of the vehicle is clean and tidy and that all equipment fixed to and travelling in the vehicle is fit for purpose.

What you will need:

  • Full Category B Driving Licence
  • Experience of driving.
  • Awareness of health and safety; particularly manual handling as the role involves considerable movement of stock and other items.
  • Experience of working on own and to specific schedule.
  • Good attendance record and excellent time-keeping/punctuality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with library staff and others in a polite manner.
