GLL is looking for 2 Exercise Referral Instructors to work in Basingstoke Sports Centre. If you have the skills and ambition to join us as an Exercise Referral Instructor, there's never been a more exciting time to join us. This is more than an Exercise Referral Instructor, it's a career.
The Exercise Referral Instructor role is responsible for prescribing suitable physical activity and supporting behaviour change for Medically Referred clients. The role will include setting up and undertaking group and individual training sessions along with general day-to-day operation of the GP Referral programme including referral processing, accurate record keeping and data processing.
The Healthwise Team are looking for 2 experienced Exercise Referral Instructors who ideally hold a Level 4 qualification in either Cardiac Rehabilitation, Cancer Rehabilitation or Postural Stability Instructor. The Exercise Referral Instructor is responsible to the Healthwise Coordinator / Health Manager.
What you’ll do:
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the Physical Activity Referral Scheme (PARS), maximising effectiveness of all available resources.
- Carry out health and lifestyle assessments with referral patients and develop safe and appropriate programmes of physical activity/exercise.
- Act as first point of contact for patients referred onto the scheme.
- Provide individuals with evidence-based, relevant and culturally sensitive information regarding a healthy lifestyle.
- Constructively interact with different people in a variety of areas within the operational team, wider health teams and GLL support services.
- Instruct Supervised Gym and Healthwise Circuits.

What you need:
- Essential - GP Referral qualification (Level 3).
- A recognised Fitness instructor or Personal training qualification (Level 3).
- Experience of pre-screening/assessing patients for suitability to physical activity/exercise programme.
- Experience of monitoring and progressing individuals through an exercise programme.
- A good understanding of the health and fitness industry.
- Ability to motivate individuals and support behaviour change.
- Good time management and punctuality.
