Qualifications

  • A UK bachelor's degree (2:2 or above, although some 3rd class degrees may be considered)
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above (plus Science for primary)
  • Right to work and study in the UK, with 3+ years of residency in the UK/EEA (For employment-based routes)
  • Some relevant school experience and a host school

You’ll also gain practical, hands-on experience across a variety of settings, including Early Years, Primary, or Secondary (depending on your chosen phase).

Salaried Route (Employment-Based)

  • 10-month course
  • You are employed full-time (32.5 hrs/week) on the Unqualified Teacher Pay Scale
  • The school pays tuition fees for QTS
  • Option to add PGCE for £500 (trainee-funded)
  • For this route, you will need some classroom-based experience of teaching in a school
  • You would need a school to employ you as a salaried trainee teacher

Postgraduate Teacher Apprentice Route (Employment-Based)

  • 10-month course
  • You are employed full-time (32.5 hrs/week) on the Unqualified Teacher Pay Scale
  • The training fees are paid by your employer's training levy pot
  • For this route, you will need some classroom-based experience in a school
  • You would need a school to employ you as an apprentice

Fee-Funded Route – Unpaid training placement, but eligible for:

  • Tuition Fee Loan (up to full cost)
  • Maintenance Loan (up to ~£13,000)
  • Tax-free DfE bursaries (for shortage secondary subjects) paid directly to the trainee to cover tuition fees

Training Fee Costs

  • £9,790 (QTS + PGCE)
  • £9,290 (QTS only) - additional cost for PGCE
