The predicted salary is between 24000 - 36000 £ per year.

The Phlebotomist will be a member of the Practice nursing team and will assist with the delivery of health promotion, phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring and urinalysis. The postholder will work independently under the leadership of the registered nurses. They will support the delivery of clinical services and will uphold the high standard of care provided and help deliver policy and procedures across the Practice.

Hours: 27 hours per week

Main duties of the job:

  • Run phlebotomy sessions including urinalysis and blood pressure reading/recording.
  • The testing and result recording of clinical specimens.
  • Maintain computerised records of care, treatment, advice and tests.
  • Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients.
  • Ensure that the drug refrigerators are at the correct temperature on a daily basis and that drugs/vaccines are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, consulting rooms, fridges and cupboards.
  • Ensure appropriate handling of specimens and sending them to the local pathology lab, as appropriate for further analysis where necessary.

About us: Glenpark & Teams Medical Services has been serving the population of Dunston, Teams and the surrounding area for over 100 years. The Practices are situated with easy access to the A1 and the Metro Centre. The Practice boundary covers Dunston, Whickham, Swalwell, Lobley Hill, Teams and some of Bensham.

Job responsibilities:

  • Run phlebotomy sessions including urinalysis and blood pressure reading/recording.
  • Report all matters pertaining to patient care changes in condition/circumstances to a relevant member of the nursing team as a matter of priority and ensure that a computerised record is kept.
  • The testing and result recording of clinical specimens.
  • Maintain computerised records of care, treatment, advice and tests.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring patient care by chaperoning when required.
  • Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients.
  • Ensure that the drug refrigerators are at the correct temperature on a daily basis and that drugs/vaccines are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, consulting rooms, fridges and cupboards.
  • The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt and maintaining the 'cold chain' when drugs/vaccines are delivered to the Practice.
  • Ensure appropriate handling of specimens and sending them to the local pathology lab, as appropriate for further analysis where necessary.
  • To ensure that strict confidentiality protocols are adhered to.
  • To attend training sessions on behalf of the practice as required.

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Experience of Phlebotomy or healthcare work.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Primary Care General Practice experience.
  • Use of EMIS Web clinical software.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE level, with GCSE Grade 4 or above in English Language & Maths or equivalent experience.
  • Phlebotomy Certificate or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Able to follow procedures/instructions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Good time management.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Car owner/driver.
