Ardbeg House on the beautiful Scottish island of Islay is seeking a dedicated General Manager to ensure our guest experience aligns with our prestigious brand standards. In this role, you will coach and mentor the team to achieve excellence, fostering brand engagement and ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional stay. You will collaborate with the Head of Brand Homes and the hotel team to meet revenue targets and manage costs effectively. The role combines strategic planning and a commitment to luxury hospitality.
Job Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Passionately advocate and act as an ambassador for the Ardbeg brand. Ensure that Ardbeg House is efficiently managed to deliver the standards and targets of a luxury boutique Hotel. Establish key performance indicators to ensure the guest experience exceeds customer demand. Collaborate with the DVC team to share resources, work together on offerings and optimise guest experiences across the two sites.
- Management: Manage, motivate, and develop the Ardbeg House Team to deliver the highest standard of customer service to all guests. Ensure appropriate levels of staffing are established and maintained at all times. Exceptional guest experience; making sure that the Ardbeg House teams have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities and are ready and able to operate in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner. Manage and develop the performance of direct reports.
- Sales & Marketing: Passionately advocate and act as a Sales Ambassador for the House and the brand. Drive residential, non-residential and private room sales. Manage rates, packages and offers in order to beat budgeted revenues. Share reports showing sales forecasts against budget.
- Financial: To manage budgets for areas of responsibility and provide regular reports to the business. Work with the Brand Homes Manager in the setting of annual revenue and overhead budgets for areas of responsibility. Ensure that appropriate financial and cash handling procedures and controls are in place at all times.
- Health and Safety: Ensure all Health & Safety policies and procedures for the Ardbeg House are understood and adhered to.

- Professional/Technical Experience: Experience in operating in a busy luxury operational hospitality environment. Experience in offering a high level of customer service. Strong Microsoft skills. Use of Hotel booking systems/till systems beneficial. Can’t be afraid of technology. Needs to be able to show situational management skills. Strong attention to detail.
- Key Competencies: Good sense of humour – needs to reflect the brand through their tone of voice. Ability to connect easily with people and work in a rural environment. Wants to be involved and engaged in seeing the business grow. Calm under pressure.
