An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Associate to join our busy team. You will work within the GP practice team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care to the registered practice population. The role supports GPs and Practice Nurses.

Main duties of the job:

  • You will help to deliver both planned and reactive care, health promotion, and chronic disease management, helping improve patient outcomes in the community.
  • You will also undertake clinical and administrative duties helping to maintain accurate patient records.

Glenlyn Medical Centre is a large general practice serving the communities of East Molesey and Thames Ditton. We have a large patient list of ever-increasing diversity and complexity. The workforce is equally diverse, with a large multi-disciplinary clinical team. We provide support and staff to manage and undertake a wide variety of community services and locality-wide support services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Duties:
    • Measuring and recording vital signs (BP, pulse, respiration, temperature)
    • Phlebotomy (blood taking)
    • ECG recordings
    • Urinalysis
    • Wound care and simple dressings
    • Removal of sutures/clips
    • Administer vaccinations and immunisations (if trained and competent)
    • Support long-term condition management (e.g., diabetes, asthma, COPD)
    • Assist with cervical screening (where appropriately trained)
    • Assist with Childhood Immunisation Programmes (where appropriately trained)
  • Patient Care & Health Promotion:
    • Provide advice on general health, wellbeing, and lifestyle changes (e.g., smoking cessation, weight management)
    • Support national health programmes such as NHS Health Checks
    • Assist in screening and recall systems for chronic disease reviews
    • Promote patient independence and self-management
  • Supporting the Practice Team:
    • Work collaboratively with GPs, Practice Nurses, HCAs, and administrative staff
    • Support effective patient flow within clinics
    • Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment
    • Assist in infection control and stock management
  • Administrative & Record-Keeping:
    • Accurately record patient information using clinical systems
    • Maintain up-to-date and accurate patient records
    • Follow practice protocols, guidelines, and confidentiality policies (GDPR)
  • Patient Safety & Governance:
    • Work within scope of practice and elevate concerns where appropriate
    • Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures
    • Participate in audits, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities
    • Report incidents, safeguarding concerns, and risks

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Competence in clinical procedures relevant to primary care
  • IT literacy (clinical systems and Microsoft Office)

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Nursing Associate Foundation Degree (Level 5)
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting (primary care desirable)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Working Environment:

Based in a GP practice Monday-Friday working with occasional extended hours clinics. Interaction with a wider range of patients across all age groups.

Career Development:

Opportunities to expand clinical skills in primary care. Potential progression to Registered Nurse training. Development into specialist roles (e.g., chronic disease management, immunisations).

Additional Duties:

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Managing Director or leadership team.
