Payroll Officer
£30,000 to £35,000 | Full time | Office based, Slough
About Glenholme
Glenholme Specialist Healthcare has more than 35 years' experience delivering personalised care and support to adults with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health conditions and complex needs. We operate over 20 residential and supported living services across England, from Blackpool to Brighton, and employ around 800 people. We are growing, with continued investment in our specialist care services.
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to take full ownership of payroll for around 800 employees across two monthly runs, one salaried and one hourly paid.
This is a standalone role reporting directly to the HR Director, based at our Slough head office. You will own the end to end process and be the go to expert for payroll across the business, working closely with HR, service managers and employees to make sure our people are paid accurately and on time.
It is also a role with room to shape things. As we grow, there is real scope to improve processes, strengthen controls and influence how payroll operates.
Key Responsibilities
- Processing two monthly payrolls end to end in Sage 50 Payroll, from data collection through to BACS and reporting
- Managing the flow of hours from Workforce into payroll, resolving queries with managers before cut off
- Processing starters, leavers, promotions, contractual changes and salary adjustments
- Calculating and administering statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP
- Managing pensions and auto enrolment, including assessments, uploads, opt outs and re-enrolment duties
- Submitting RTI returns to HMRC and resolving HMRC queries
- Completing year end, including P60s, P11Ds and Class 1A returns
- Administering PAYE, National Insurance, student loans, attachment of earnings and National Minimum Wage compliance
- Acting as first point of contact for payroll queries from employees and managers
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and producing reports for HR and Finance
- Identifying and implementing improvements to payroll processes and controls
About You
You take pride in getting things right, you are comfortable owning a payroll on your own, and you would rather fix a problem than pass it on.
- At least three years' experience running end to end payroll
- Experience using Sage 50 Payroll
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including statutory payments, pensions and auto enrolment, RTI and year end
- A good understanding of how HR and payroll connect across the employee lifecycle
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, organised approach
- Confident communicating with employees and managers at all levels
- Able to manage strict deadlines and stay calm under pressure
- Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check, which we pay for
- Right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role
Desirable
- CIPP qualified or working towards
- Experience in health and social care, or another multi site organisation
- Experience with time and attendance systems

- £30,000 to £35,000 depending on experience
- 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays, rising by one day for each year of service up to five additional days
- Life insurance
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Your birthday off, paid

- Cycle to Work scheme
- Refer a friend scheme
- Enhanced DBS paid for by Glenholme
