Data Platform Engineer (12 months) – Gleneagles

We are currently seeking an innovative, resourceful and process‑oriented Data Platform Engineer to join our IT team.

Location: Auchterarder, just off the A9. Gleneagles is also within easy reach of a number of Scottish towns and cities: Edinburgh City Centre (1hr), Glasgow or Dundee (50mins), Stirling and Perth (25mins).

Responsibilities

  • Executing a clear data roadmap, you\’ll raise engineering standards, and enable our businesses to use data with confidence
  • Providing hands‑on technical leadership, designing and developing ELT/ETL into Snowflake and Oracle using SQL/Python and modern orchestration, owning performance tuning and cost optimisation
  • Delivering well‑modelled, business‑ready data products and certified Power BI assets
  • Keeping pipelines stable, observable, and cost‑controlled with clear SLAs
  • Implementing robust security, privacy, and access controls aligned to policy and GDPR
  • Standardising integration patterns to connect platforms and applications safely and repeatably
  • Partnering with our business teams to turn data into decisions and measurable outcomes
  • Managing data quality & governance, defining and enforcing data standards, validation checks, SLAs, lineage, catalogue, and lifecycle (retention/archiving)
  • Responsible for platform operations & observability, you\’ll operate our databases, pipelines, and warehouses with dashboards, alerting, incident run‑books, and CI/CD
  • Ensuring our security & privacy by design, applying role‑based access, masking, and classification; manage keys/secrets; evidence compliance and access reviews
  • Enabling analytics, model conformed layers, publishing certified datasets, and optimising DAX/SQL alongside coaching our analysts and super‑users
  • Establishing repeatable patterns (batch/CDC/stream where warranted), managing scheduling and dependencies, and documents for reuse
  • Interacting with our guests, always warm, professional, helpful and doing everything you can to exceed their expectations; playing your part in making their stay with us luxurious in every way

Qualifications

  • You have fantastic core engineering skills in advanced SQL (Snowflake + Oracle), solid Python; and hands‑on experience with dbt/Airflow/ADF/Matillion (or similar) and Git‑based CI/CD
  • In Analytics Stack, you\’re adept in Power BI dataset/semantic model design, DAX optimisation, workspace governance, deployment pipelines
  • You know exactly how to run production data platforms; monitoring, incident/problem management, performance, and FinOps
  • Security & Compliance; RBAC, masking/encryption, auditability; comfortable evidencing GDPR‑aligned controls, are all second nature to you
  • You have estate breadth; hybrid/on‑prem and cloud data services and you\’re familiar with SaaS integrations
  • Highly motivated and possessing an immense sense of pride in your work; you\’re passionate about delivering the high standards for our guests in line with the Gleneagles brand
  • You have a positive “can do” attitude to solving problems in a professional and courteous manner
  • A strong team player with great communication skills and an enthusiastic approach; you\’re well organised and punctual
