The main purpose of this role is to provide an effective grounds maintenance service, focusing on cleansing recreational grounds, cemeteries, and open spaces. The Operative will work independently to manage daily routes and tasks, driving company vehicles and ensuring all equipment is used safely.
Key Responsibilities
- General cleansing of local recreational grounds, cemeteries, and open spaces.
- Removing litter and emptying litter and dog bins.
- Cleansing of any graffiti or marks.
- Carrying out duties in accordance with best practice.
- Conducting park inspections and reporting any issues.
- Conducting routine play inspections.
- Working independently to manage assigned daily route and tasks.
- Driving company vehicles.
- Ensuring all equipment is used in safe conditions and reporting any defects.
- Adhering to all Health and Safety procedures.
Working Hours & Rota
This role is based on a 24‑hour working week, scheduled across 3 days from Friday to Sunday (7:00 am – 3:30 pm). Shifts are 8.5 hours long, which includes a 30‑minute unpaid break, resulting in 8 paid hours per day.
Health and Safety
- Act in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Glendale’s Health and Safety Policy at all times.
- Carry out instructions from the Line Manager following Glendale’s policies, codes of practice, quality management system, and employee handbook.
- Be knowledgeable of health and safety regulations applicable to the workplace and activities.
- Complete necessary induction and health and safety modules before commencing any works.
- Be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and others in the working environment.
- Promote safe working practices and ensure equipment is safe to use.
Machine Maintenance and Security
- Ensure suitability and safe use of all machinery/equipment following the task requirements.
- Use all machinery/equipment in accordance with its handbook.
- Report any machinery/equipment that does not operate correctly to the Line Manager and complete a defect tag.
- Complete and submit all check/maintenance sheets to the Line Manager.
- Secure all machinery/equipment at all times when not in use.
Quality and Customer Care
- Maintain awareness of tasks and targets for each day and adhere to required standards.
- Monitor and maintain work output to a satisfactory level and standard.
- Conduct yourself in a polite and friendly manner at all times.
- Complete and return associated administration to the office within required timescales.
Environmental
- Operate duties in a way that minimises environmental impact, including efficient use of fuels/oils and correct waste disposal.
- Treat any spillage of fuels or chemicals promptly and in accordance with regulations.

Qualifications
- Previous knowledge of cleansing and litter collection is desirable; training will be provided.
- Previous experience with handheld machinery is desirable; full training will be given.
- Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
