Job Summary
Responsible for the management and delivery of design information in accordance with the agreed design programme and deliverable schedule (which may encompass input at both pre-construction and construction stage of a project). Candidates must have proven data centre experience, with a strong understanding of the technical, operational, and compliance requirements associated with mission critical environments. Responsible for the production of design programmes, design scopes, design responsibility matrix, appointments, schedules to record progress, upline reporting, attending/chairing necessary meetings and workshops. Responsible for ensuring that the design is compliant to relevant legislation and technical requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing the contract specifications, drawings and related documents.
- Issuing and closing out any Requests For Information that arise.
- Chairing design team meetings and leading the process with the consultants and subcontract designers.
- Submitting design information to the client team.
- Ensuring BREEAM compliance where required on projects in support of (and with) the sustainability team.
- Coordinating the submission of information to ensure all planning conditions are discharged, with support of the Planning Consultant/Lead Designer.
- Leading design review workshops with consultant and subcontract design teams to ensure clear understanding of design and technical submissions.
- Carrying out technical reviews of proposed works.
- Coordinating the submission of information to satisfy Building Control compliance in support of the Building Control Officer.
- Managing the design process and issue of information release schedules.
- Providing input and design reviews into the procurement process.
- Assisting with the collation of the O&M Health and Safety file (as requested by Document Controller).
- Providing design & technical support to project management teams.
- Review and offer advice on value engineering opportunities.
- To work to the Company's Quality, Environmental and Safety Management System standards and performance criteria including delivering the objectives set.
- To co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided. To take reasonable care of personal and other's health and safety at all times.
- Investigate and capitalise on repeat business opportunities on live sites.
- To maintain and nurture strong relationships with external parties providing mutual benefits and promote teamwork and co-operation across all departments internally to maximise team and business goals.
- To ensure that department operations are conducted in accordance with the Company's Health & Safety policy. Ensure suitable and sufficient risk assessments are conducted considering both colleagues and contractors/customers and introduce measures to reduce the risks to as low a level as reasonably practicable.
- To encourage and support your team in enhancing their performance by providing direction, regular feedback and development opportunities.
- Any other duties consistent with the role of Design Manager as may be required from time to time.

- Extensive experience in an engineering or architectural background.
- Experience of managing design teams.
- Awareness of and adherence to company policies and health and safety requirements.
- Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets.

- Experience of successfully embedding change in an organisation.
- Commercially astute with a broad business understanding.
- Excellent IT skills – proficient in suite of Microsoft programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
