Job Summary
To support the design management process during the delivery of a construction project; providing support to Design Managers and Senior Design Manager on tenders. At this level, Junior Design Managers are given the opportunity to develop a broad base of technical and professional skills and knowledge.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor and support the implementation of project specific design management processes and protocols
- Assist PM/SDM in the procurement of design services by contributing towards the definition of consultants’ scopes of services and responsibilities
- Ensure effective implementation and management of document control processes/ design information relating to subcontractors and consultants in line with company protocols
- Ensure effective coordination of the request for information process for the project
- Find solutions for on-site technical problems
- Develop a detailed understanding of the project scope and requirements, and the scope of services for all design related consultants
- Liaise with client’s team, project team and other project stakeholders on developing an understanding of design issues, drawing reviews, and supporting the Project Lead in their decision-making process
- Undertake design-related risk management reviews and workshops with site teams and input into the project risk register
- Produce regular progress summaries of specific elements of the design
- Contribute to contractor proposals and client and internal reports
- Working collaboratively and communicating effectively with other areas of the Glencar Construction business to provide exceptional support
- Work to the Company’s Quality, Environmental and Safety Management System standards and performance criteria including delivering the objectives set
- Co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided. To take reasonable care of personal and other’s health and safety at all times
- Any other duties consistent with the role of Assistant Design Manager as may be required from time to time.
Qualifications/Experience
- Working towards a degree (or equivalent) in construction related disciplines or a similar field
- Has a minimum of 1 year post qualification experience or industry knowledge in a relevant field
- IT skills – proficient in Microsoft suite of programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Awareness of and adherence to company policies and health and safety requirements.
- Can demonstrate commercial awareness and a strong understanding / have a willingness to learn all elements of the construction process
- Able to create and follow clearly written processes
- Methodical, analytical and organised with an attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Personable and effective team player
- Open to feedback with a willingness to learn and improve
- Able to work unaided where appropriate/demonstrate a certain level of autonomy
