Job Description:

The Position

We are looking to appoint a full-time teacher of Drama and LAMDA specialist for a September 2025 start. The successful candidate should be able to teach drama from Year 1 to A-level and be registered or eligible to be registered with GTC Scotland.

The College

Founded in 1847 by William Gladstone and others, Glenalmond College is a fully co-educational boarding and day school, set in the stunning Perthshire countryside and enjoying magnificent grounds of over 300 acres in an unrivaled setting at the foot of the Grampian hills. The principal point of entry is at 13 but we have a small Second Form group which is geared towards those transferring at 12 from the Scottish primary system. There are presently four boys\’ boarding houses and three girls\’ houses.

The School has excellent academic and co-curricular facilities. In addition to cricket, rugby and lacrosse pitches, there are tennis courts, squash courts, a grass athletics track, a nine-hole golf course, a swimming pool, a sports hall and an all-weather playing surface. The Robin Thomson Theatre building is the venue for our drama and musical productions. The School has a strong CCF contingent, an outstanding Duke of Edinburgh\’s Award Scheme and a Community Service programme that operates locally on a regular basis.

The Department

The Drama Department at Glenalmond is an exciting place to be and the successful applicant will join the Head of Drama in delivering Drama lessons throughout the age ranges at both Glenalmond and Craigclowan Prep School and assisting with productions, clubs, and events. Drama at Glenalmond plays an important role within the College and recent productions include ‘Audience & Confusions’, ‘The Railway Children’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘Treasure Island’, which is being performed in May. The department is also developing resources so that pupils can get involved in set design, lighting, sound, make-up, and costume. All pupils take part in Drama as part of their curriculum in Second and Third Form with many going on to study at GCSE and A Level. Pupils also participate in the renowned London Academy of Music and Drama Awards (LAMDA), and this is an area the College is keen to develop and foster further. LAMDA provides qualifications in communication and performance and inspires the next generation of confident communicators through examinations in drama, literature, and poetry. The ability to teach LAMDA students and further develop this aspect of our provision would be an advantage. There are additionally excellent cross-curricular links with English, Music, and other departments as we work on our productions and a wide and varied range of extra-curricular opportunities provided for all students from House Drama, Theatre trips, and Events. The successful candidate will be expected to support and assist with the Drama Scholar programme which is being developed to recognise talent and ability. The aim is to offer a wide range of additional opportunities and professional support to develop pupils\’ appreciation and skills in drama and performance.

The successful applicant will be an inspiring Drama specialist and be available from September. Interest amongst the pupils is high and there is scope for someone with imagination and drive to challenge pupils to benefit from and enjoy the subject, whilst delivering to a high level. There is room and opportunity to innovate and contribute to the future direction of Drama at both Glenalmond and Craigclowan. It would be an advantage if the successful candidate was a qualified LAMDA specialist; the ability to teach up to GCSE is essential. The successful candidate should also possess appropriate IT skills and be able to demonstrate a love of the subject outside the classroom. Glenalmond and Craigclowan are welcoming and exciting places for both teachers and pupils to work; this is a wonderful opportunity for someone with real flair and enthusiasm to join the team.
