Role Overview
We are seeking a commercially focused Project Accountant / Finance Business Partner to partner closely with Project Managers and the Managing Director in driving financial performance across a portfolio of projects. This role sits at the centre of project delivery, owning financial control, forecasting and commercial insight to ensure projects are delivered profitably, cash is effectively managed, and risks are proactively mitigated.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full project P&L, cash flow forecasting and financial performance tracking across multiple live projects.
- Manage WIP, sales reserves and revenue recognition, ensuring accurate reporting and strong financial governance.
- Partner with Project Managers through monthly project reviews, challenging assumptions and identifying risks, errors and commercial opportunities.
- Provide commercial insight on fixed price contracts, scope changes, delivery risks and customer claims to protect margin and cash.
- Support the Commercial Director with financial analysis and decision support across the project lifecycle.
- Maintain robust financial data and reporting, ensuring integrity, transparency and audit readiness.
- Lead project validations and support year-end audit requirements with clear documentation and analysis.
- Drive continuous improvement in systems, controls and project accounting processes, including involvement in system development initiatives.
- Monitor forecast accuracy, cost performance and cash generation, proactively highlighting issues and recommending corrective action.
- Travel 3-4 times per month to support project oversight and stakeholder engagement.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in Project Accounting, Project Control or Finance Business Partnering within a project-led environment.
- Strong understanding of project P&L, cash flow forecasting, WIP and revenue recognition principles.
- Experience working with fixed price contracts and managing scope variations.
- Commercially astute, confident challenging operational stakeholders and influencing decision-making.
- Experience using SymPro (desirable not essential).
- Strong analytical capability with a focus on data accuracy, financial control and continuous improvement.
