Gleeson Homes are recruiting for an Engineer, responsible for supporting and assisting the Regional Technical team and operating team to support the regional and Group Business plan, commercial objectives, budgets and future growth requirements, whilst mentoring junior members of the team. This role is ideal for people who are passionate about progressing their technical career within a national, growing homebuilder, with a requirement for an eye for detail and the desire to complete tasks to a high standard.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical/engineering support to the land/development team to assist during feasibility studies and lead in the preparation of site viability reports in line with current regulatory requirements for residential development.
  • Identify the need for external consultants, agree fees, the scope of service capability, timescales and deliverability.
  • Manage relationships with consultants to ensure the flow of information is within the agreed timescales and in accordance with, and on schedule with the programme and in line with the National Housebuilding council standards.
  • Be aware of and act upon commercial implications relating to planning & architectural design; civil & structural engineering design; geotechnical & ground remediation strategies; statutory services - new supplies & diversions.
  • Assist in the process of tendering for, setting-up and establishing on site management companies, whilst implementing the group procedures and ensuring all legal aspects in relation to various agreements.
  • Interact with internal departments, consultants, suppliers and sub-contractors as necessary in order to achieve Building Regulations and warranty approval and satisfactory conditions discharge.
  • Assist in the preparation of key status reports and updates on all KPIs relating to the Technical function.
  • Co-ordinate the appointment of utilities, including designs, quotes and any required agreements.
  • Responsible for managing the Adoption process.
  • Provide engineering support to site teams and Internal departments.
  • Be present on site and lead on relevant technical meetings relating to the procurement and approval of site infrastructure.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A relevant qualification or strong experience in technical design, and/or civil engineering.
  • Knowledge of engineering requirements of the house building industry and the legal framework associated with Technical standards and requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of:
    • Highway Design Standards
    • Sewers for adoption
    • Building Regs
    • British Standards
    • AutoCAD
  • Good Technical and legal knowledge and Financial/Commercial awareness.
  • Good Organisational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Awareness of Type approval with NHBC, LABC and SBD.
  • Numerical and Literate.
