The role of Engineering Manager is to manage and co-ordinate all aspects of the Engineering aspects of the region from initial land appraisal through to final adoptions of a development.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the evaluation and appraisal of development opportunities and to provide information required to purchase land.
- Advise on and secure planning approvals, delivering and reporting as per Group policies and processes to meet the Region\’s business plan.
- Responsible for the management of external consultants to ensure each development is optimised and delivered on programme and within budget.
- Management of external planning, architectural and engineering consultants to ensure that all design information is received, co-ordinated and distributed on time and within budget.
- Prepare and maintain programmes and documents for the monitoring of progress and for reporting to the Technical Director.
- Comply with the rules and procedures contains within the company Operating Framework.
- Coordinate the preparation of the Pre tender Health and Safety Information in accordance with the Gleeson procedures.
- Co-ordinate and manage project meetings with consultants and other departments in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring all relevant action points are noted and recorded.
- Manage the pre-distribution of information and taking of minutes from all meetings together with updated programmes/status reports.
- Liaise and negotiate where necessary with Statutory Authorities, Local Planning Authorities, Consultants etc. to ensure projects achieve the set objectives and programmes.
- Manage appointment of utilities and procurement of approved Utility designs
- Progress initial communications with all technical specialist suppliers and contractors e.g piling and supporting procurement department through procurement process.
- Manage adoption process of all roads, sewers and other infrastructure
- Manage the Building control and warranty process for each development.
- Invite fee quotations, analyse quotations against budgets and appoint chosen consultants following approval from the Technical Director.
- Advise the company on changes in technical matters and/or competitors product.
- Provide the RMD, Technical Director and Land Director with operational and tactical engineering solutions and reports / assessments presenting clear and reasoned engineering advice in terms of potential risks/opportunities.
- Provide key status and project information, assessments, analysis and recommendations in relation to engineering matters and take action to mitigate risk and protect land acquisition and site start development targets and KPIs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A relevant qualification and/or broad experience in Technical/planning with an Engineering focus.
- Good strong knowledge of the full development/Technical process/Commercial awareness
- Broad knowledge of the legal frameworks associated with planning management and development procurement.
- Ability to create and manage programmes, in particular Critical Path.
- Previous experience as either a project or discipline manage within a development organisation.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Awareness of Type approval with NHBC, LABC and SBD
- Good Organisational skills
- Flexible and adaptable to changing requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Numerical and Literate
- Broad awareness of H&S/CDM regulations
- Technically competent in using AutoCAD
