The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 € per year.
Working under the direction of the Nurse Manager and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis. This role is on a part-time basis for 16 hours per week and the successful applicant must be available to work from 7am. The role will involve undertaking venepuncture clinics within the practice and supporting patients in the community through occasional home visits.
Main duties of the job
- Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
- Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
- Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensuring specimens are ready for onward transportation
- The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
- Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
- Maintaining effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff
- Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
- Acting as a chaperone as required
- Ensuring clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy
- Be aware of duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on safeguarding adults and safeguarding children
- Undertaking all mandatory training and induction programmes
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
