UK EHSS Regional Lead in Stevenage

Position Summary

You will lead the Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) service for GSK R&D sites across the UK. You will set direction, support scientists and site leaders, and ensure safe, compliant and sustainable operations. You will manage and develop a team of EHSS professionals and work closely with facilities, operations and business leaders. Responsibilities

These responsibilities include some of the following:

• Lead and grow a regional EHSS team to deliver consistent, effective services across UK R&D sites.
• Set EHSS direction for the UK R&D cluster and translate strategy into practical, site‑level plans.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight for risk management, compliance and performance monitoring.
• Build strong partnerships with scientists, facilities, occupational health, and leadership teams.
• Drive EHSS programs, audits, corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.
• Represent UK sites in leadership forums and escalates issues when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure EHSS systems and controls meet regulatory and company standards for UK R&D sites.
• Provide technical leadership on chemical, biological, safety and environmental risks relevant to research activities.
• Own EHSS performance metrics and drive improvements in safety, environmental impact and sustainability.
• Maintain strong working relationships with site leaders and stakeholders to align EHSS priorities with business needs.
• Act as focal point for EHSS matters for the Stevenage site, then for Cambridge when it opens as GSK’s premier R&D Hub in the UK.
• Lead incident management, investigations and the delivery of corrective and preventive actions.
• Coach and develop EHSS colleagues to build capability and resilience across the team.

Basic Qualification

• Degree in a relevant scientific, engineering or technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience leading EHSS delivery in a regulated technical environment, or co‑creation of EHS strategy in Pharma R&D.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and develop teams in a line or matrix structure.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills with senior leaders and technical teams.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex technical matters into clear, practical actions.
• Strong customer focus, understanding their needs through enhanced listening and quick, efficient, and pragmatic decision making.

Preferred Qualification

• Post‑graduate qualification or professional membership in an EHSS‑related discipline.
• Experience in pharmaceutical research or similar regulated laboratory environments.
• Prior experience working across multiple sites or in international roles.

Working Model

This role is site based with some flexibility. For candidates seeking to be located at our Stevenage site, this role will temporarily be based at Stevenage. However, the Company plans to relocate its offices to Cambridge. The location of this role will therefore subsequently change to Cambridge, UK in accordance with timelines to be set by the Company. The relocation is currently proposed to take effect by early 2029. Closing date for applications is Monday 21st September.
