Data & Predictive Sciences will only be successful by working in close collaboration with Research Tech, Therapeutic Areas, Scientific Digital & Tech, Onyx Research Data Platform, AIML, Risk & Compliance, and across lines within the function itself. Success will require developing and fostering a high-performing team culture of collaboration, curiosity, consistency, agility, quality, peer review, and continuous improvement with a relentless focus on realizing value through end-user uptake and measurable impact.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver data solutions with measurable cross-organizational impact and value, leveraging existing or planned infrastructure from partner functions in Scientific Digital & Tech and GSK’s Onyx Research Data Platform.
  • Enable facile data collation, preparation, and storage, perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in the data and communicate findings.
  • Lead a team of data science professionals and be responsible for skills and capability development, career development and driving performance within the team.
  • Build awareness of and contribute to the overall Data & Predictive Sciences goals and objectives via implementation of relevant components of those objectives.
  • Collaborate with research scientists and stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Work with your director to prioritize your book of work.
  • Work with other data scientists to build an understanding of the business context, systems, environment, strategy and people aligned to this area.
  • Contribute strategic thought partnership and execute relevant components of an organizational strategy.
  • Work across Data Sciences teams to contribute to peer review, quality, consistency, enterprise thinking, and flexibly resource projects to foster skills development and best alignment of skills to projects.
  • Seek and respond to peer feedback to grow your skills and impact.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Pharma/biotech experience with a PhD or extensive pharma/biotech experience with a Masters in a relevant scientific domain with a significant data sciences component.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: e.g. Python (preferred), R, Java, Javascript, including toolchains for documentation, testing and operations.
  • Experience working as both a Team Lead and a Team Member with a demonstrated passion for driving performance, skills, capability, and career development to grow and improve impact of the team.
  • Knowledge and experience of data analysis in scientific areas aligned to Protein Cellular & Structural Science and Chemical Biology such as bioinformatics, structural biology, biophysics, statistics, image analysis, protein and small molecule structure.
  • Experience assembling (preparing raw data for analysis), analysing, and visualising complex scientific data including use of databases, data warehousing, data pipelines, big data technologies and working with large scale biology, chemical or structural data.
  • Demonstrated learning agility, and scientific curiosity while maintaining focus on driving greater impact in the face of uncertainty and change.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • Cloud experience (e.g. Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes) and/or HPC experience.
  • Experience with modern software development tools / ways of working (e.g. Object-Oriented Programming, git/GitHub, DevOps tools, CI/CD, metrics / monitoring).
  • Software Engineering experience demonstrated in a corporate setting, via open-source software contribution, or public library (Python, R, etc) development.
  • Knowledge of modern data engineering tools (e.g. airflow, kafka, spark).
  • Experience with Nextflow.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with concepts related to Data Fabric, Data Mesh, and Data-as-an-Asset.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning, and data manipulation libraries (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch would be advantageous).
  • Track record of change leadership and driving lasting adoption by enhancing data science skills (e.g. statistics and design of experiments, data analysis and visualisation, digital safety etc) in an organization.
