We are seeking a highly experienced, motivated and innovative individual to join us in the Translational Genetics team, which is part of the broader GSK R&D Translational Sciences group. The successful candidate will provide a deep and broad skillset in statistical and computational methods to identify, develop and deliver a portfolio of translational data-driven activities to impact the GSK portfolio.

You will have strong expertise in analysing large-scale genetic and 'omics datasets, with a particular emphasis on interpreting findings from these efforts to help develop understanding into causal mechanisms in disease. Your work will have application across therapeutic areas and may inform target discovery, biomarker discovery, disease and mechanistic understanding, indication and patient subgroup selection, and parsing treatment response using precision medicine approaches.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary, collaborative and scientifically driven environment interacting with GSK scientists to advance drug discovery and clinical development. You may have the opportunity to drive collaborations with external institutions aligned with strategic priorities.

In this role you will:

  • Apply state-of-the-art statistical and computational approaches to large-scale genetic, genomic (including proteomics) and clinical phenotypic datasets to generate at-scale insights and address targeted translational scientific questions.
  • Demonstrate analytical prowess to develop, and deliver high quality work to impact the GSK drug development pipeline.
  • Effectively communicate analysis findings, with expert interpretation, to GSK Genetics & Genomics colleagues and project teams.
  • Work with focus and agility to deliver personal and team deliverables against objectives, demonstrating strong statistical, analytic and critical thinking skills with understanding of the translational context of your work.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies in translational and statistical genetics with evaluation of their potential and implementation in the organization as indicated.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional learning within the team.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, biomedical statistics, computational sciences, bioinformatics or machine learning) with either a history or demonstrably working towards impactful scientific publications and/or presentations.
  • Experienced in genetics and conducting analyses that integrate genetics, genomics (particularly proteomics) and/or clinical phenotypic data to address translational questions in drug discovery and development.
  • Excellent programming skills in R or python, and knowledge of techniques in reproducible research, literate programming, FAIR data principles, or software development.
  • Ability to assess and implement new methodologies and approaches to integrate genetics and genomics to answer translational questions in drug discovery and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand key scientific questions of relevance to drug discovery and development and identify and develop innovative analytical solutions to answer them.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating complex scientific concepts to scientific colleagues.

  • Excellent collaboration and partnership skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders across functions.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on complex and impactful projects.
  • Experience of working in different trusted research environments (TREs).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in multidisciplinary teams to meet work timelines.
  • Familiarity with the stages of drug discovery and development.
