At GSK’s Barnard Castle site, we are looking to recruit a Process Safety Engineer to join our team. GSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site and has invested heavily in Industry 4.0 state‑of‑the‑art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases, and as a key supplier of some of GSK’s blockbuster products, the site contributes revenues of approximately $2Bn annually. The engineering team provides technical expertise to support manufacturing for all production operations across the site.
Job Purpose: As a Process Safety Engineer you will provide process safety expertise across the Barnard Castle site, with responsibility for coordinating relevant activities to deliver the site’s process safety programme of improvement and ongoing management.
Key Responsibilities- Provide process safety expertise at Barnard Castle site as Technical Authority.
- Plan, organise, direct and control activities concerning process safety including assessments, audits, development of solutions and regulatory compliance.
- Support the implementation of the site’s process safety improvement plan and meet site maturity model targets.
- Provide technical support in accordance with the requirements of relevant EHS legislation (in particular DSEAR), GSK Global Engineering Standards and GSK Global EHS policies; this includes work related to incidents, investigations and projects with process safety implications.
- Conduct Process Hazards Identification and Risk Assessment (such as HazID, What‑If assessments, asphyxiation, HAC) for new and existing systems and processes.
- Plan, organise and control works and ensure safe working practices are always employed, including compliance with CDM.
This role is suited to a motivated person with good influencing, communication and team‑working skills. A successful candidate will have a passion for understanding and mastering a variety of complex process and safety engineering systems and must have a keen interest in the development and deployment of emerging technologies into beneficial use.
Basic Qualifications / Skills- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., Engineering degree) and/or relevant experience working in a pharmaceutical or highly regulated industry (which includes manufacturing environments).
- Technical and operational knowledge of process safety.
