GSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site. An Engineering Technician will provide comprehensive engineering support for the Steriles Business Unit, responsible for all engineering activities associated with the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a range of equipment and technology, inspecting, assembling and packaging vials.
  • Shift based (24/7 or 24/5) supporting day‑to‑day breakdown repairs of production/plant equipment.
  • Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules and breakdown maintenance activities.
  • Support localized area projects, including new product introduction.
  • Complete tasks within Engineering Change Controls.
  • Prepare, complete and own GMP safety and quality documentation.
  • Accountable for SAP/MERPS activities such as work orders, notifications, data maintenance and ordering of plant spares.
  • Deliver continuous improvement initiatives to drive performance in line with EHS and quality objectives using GPS tools.
  • Lead equipment upgrades and manage obsolescence through continuous improvement.
  • Self‑manage training compliance metrics.
  • Calibrate equipment instrumentation.
  • Supervise internal and external contractors, ensuring GMP standards and reviewing contract company details for accuracy.
  • Manage sterile and terminally sterilised processes, boundary control and contamination prevention.
  • Perform building infrastructure tasks (fabric, electricity, piping, drainage).
  • Operate and maintain systems such as air compressors, VHP and refrigeration systems.
  • Engage positively with stakeholders, ensuring accurate contract details.
  • Deliver data cleansing activities for optimal data maintenance.
  • Maintain compliance with role, department and site procedures, processes and systems.
  • Manage data creation and changes to SAP vendor data.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications & Skills

  • Multi‑skilled technician with an industry‑recognised apprenticeship and post‑apprenticeship industry‑based knowledge and experience.
  • Minimum HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience of GSK/Pharmaceutical processes and procedures.
  • Experience with SAP business system.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams in a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated competence in current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).
  • Strong experience in a complex GMP environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience working in classified areas such as ISO5 or ISO7.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to implement plans and hold self and team accountable for delivery goals.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
