Job Description

Glasgow City Council’s Summer Internship Programme will be available from Monday 9 June 2025 – Friday 29 August 2025, inclusive.

Applicants must be available for the full duration of the placement.

The intern will work 35 hours per week and rate of pay will be the Glasgow Living Wage. Interns will work for 12 weeks, during which time they will accrue 6 days leave, the payment of which is included in their Salary so must be taken during their 12-week placement.

Applicants require to be available week commencing 31 March 2025 for interview.

The City Development Plan Team sits within the Planning Service with NRS. The team is responsible for producing the statutory Local Development Plan (Glasgow City Development Plan).
For each proposed site a site brief will be produced by the team which will appraise the sites suitability for development. There are approximately 1000 sites, and the intern will work as part of a team to populate the site briefs. This presents an opportunity for an intern to work on a project which would be formative for their studies.

The intern will be required to:
• Populate site briefs for each site.
• Apply the Site Appraisal Methodology which sets out the criteria and data required to populate the site briefs.
• Use Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping to extract data.
• Confirm who the landowner is and contact landowners for information on their plans for their site.
• Populate the briefs with:
– Site description
– Planning history
– Infrastructure constraints e.g. education, community facilities, flooding, health, transport, utilities
Eligibility criteria
• Must live within the Glasgow City Council boundary
• Have the right to live and work in the UK
• Be in the year of study specified in the advert
