An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability (NRS) for a Tobacco Control Officer to join our Environmental Health and Trading Standards team on a permanent basis.

Working within the Trading Standards service, you will work as part of the Tobacco Control Team conducting underage sales test purchases and nicotine product compliance checks, contributing to the delivery of a high quality regulatory service within Glasgow. This includes the provision of legislation controlling the supply of tobacco and nicotine vapour products. The work will involve the supervision of young people; in addition, you will carry out other duties within the Trading Standards Service.

The post consists of evening and alternate weekend working, which would include a non-standard payment. Experience of enforcing legislation and/or providing advice to the public and businesses is required. A driving licence is also desirable.

This is a challenging and rewarding role in a busy local authority environment. You will have the opportunity to contribute to investigations, inspections, enforcement activities, and consumer/business advice, helping protect Glasgow’s communities and ensuring businesses operate within the law.

You must have good communication skills, the ability to interpret and apply legislation, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Contract Details:

  • Weekly Hours: 35 hours
  • Work Pattern: Monday – Thursday and alternate weekends.
  • Pay: £37,590.25 - £43,771.71 and a non-standard working payment of £1,357.00
