As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services, Glasgow City Council is responsible for the teaching and learning of around 80,000 children and young people across the authority’s nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors.

As a Head of Service, you will lead on the development and delivery of service excellence across our schools within a defined geographical area. Your leadership will be pivotal in achieving our aims and objectives, ensuring that every child and young person receives the highest quality education.

You will be responsible for leading, developing and delivering a strategic approach for various functional activities aimed at raising attainment and achievement, particularly for those experiencing the greatest levels of deprivation. You will be responsible for leading and driving forward quality improvement initiatives within the Primary sector, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and excellence.

As part of the senior management team, the successful candidate will work to improve the outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow, ensuring resources are aligned with the Council’s commitment to improved school performance, whilst reducing the attainment gap.

You must be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Education Services and have a proven track record of leading and managing at a senior level, setting the strategic direction of a range of services.

To succeed in this role you must bring leadership, vision, together with strong stakeholder management. You will be an innovative thinker, dynamic and focused on continuously driving forward service improvements to achieve Council objectives and outcomes.

Crucially, you must have a passion for ensuring the children and young people of Glasgow receive a consistently high-quality education which will provide them with the necessary skills for learning, life, and work.

You should be educated to, at least, degree level in a relevant discipline. Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment along with eligibility for registration with GTCS, SSSC or equivalent.

Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 this post is politically restricted.
