Glasgow Science Centre (GSC) is on a mission to inspire people of all ages to engage with science and technology. We’re looking for an experienced Financial Controller to play a pivotal role in supporting our vision of a Scotland where everyone values science to enrich their lives. About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Resources and leading a team of three, you will oversee all financial and management accounting, reporting, controls, and systems across GSC. You will act as a trusted adviser to managers across the organisation - bringing financial insight, clarity and challenge to support informed decision-making and long‑term sustainability. This is an exciting opportunity to modernise and strengthen our financial systems, lead process improvements, and embed financial understanding across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly management accounts and support annual statutory accounts (Charities SORP).
- Partner with managers across all departments to provide financial analysis, insight and guidance.
- Drive finance system implementation and process improvements.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and project financial management.
- Oversee income, funding compliance and financial reporting to funders.
- Ensure robust governance, internal controls, and regulatory compliance (including VAT, PAYE/NIC and Gift Aid).
- Lead and develop the finance team, championing continuous improvement.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
- A fully qualified accountant (CA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong technical expertise.
- An excellent communicator who can translate financial information for non-finance colleagues.
- A collaborative leader with strong analytical, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Experienced in financial systems and process improvement (Iplicit or similar desirable).
- Commercially aware, solutions‑focused and aligned with GSC’s mission and values.
- Adaptable, proactive and comfortable leading change.
