Job Description

Role – Modern Apprentice Social Care (Older Adults Day Care Services)
Location – GCHSCP, Older People Services, Day Centres across the city
Hours and Shift Pattern – 35hrs per week, Monday – Friday
Contract Status – Fixed Term for 2 year placement

This post is opened to the following, 16-19 year olds and 20-29 year olds with a disability or who are care experienced.

In Glasgow, we operate 10 day care centres for older people that are accessible to those aged 65 years and over who would benefit from care and support during the day where you will work during their 2 year placement.

Our state of the art facilities help relieve loneliness and isolation while assisting with your independence. Spend the day making crafts, getting involved in activities, socialising with other people from your community and receiving care in a safe environment.

You will work as part of a team to provide assistance which promotes the physical, social and emotional needs of older people.
You will support older people to live independently and maximise their potential whilst recognising their right to dignity, privacy and choice.

Key Responsibilties of your role will be:
Assist taking service users to and from the centre.
Welcome them in the morning and assist with serving tea/coffee/toast.
Assist with a variety of activities to meet the service user\’s hobbies and interests i.e. arts & crafts, games/exercises and a variety of outings.
It is essential to work as part of a team.

You should possess good communication and active listening skills. A caring and patient nature is essential, along with the ability to adapt to change. Reliability and trustworthiness are key, as is a willingness to learn from others. You should also be able to provide meaningful support to both staff and service users.

No experience is required, however a good understanding of the support that may be required by service users would be desirable.
You should show commitment and willingness to progress through your 2 Social Services and Healthcare qualification.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment.

These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
