Learn New Communication Skills as a Personal Assistant Supporting a Deafblind Gentleman

Personal Assistants Required (2 Posts Available)

A friendly 79-year-old gentleman living in the south side of Glasgow is looking for two Personal Assistants to join his support team. He enjoys following football, values his faith, and has a close-knit family who play an active role in his life. He is looking for reliable and compassionate people who can help him stay connected with the world around him while supporting him to live independently.

Mr P is deafblind and communicates using hands-on British Sign Language (BSL). Previous experience is not required, as his family are committed to supporting new Personal Assistants to learn the communication methods he uses every day. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a specialist communication skill while making a meaningful difference to someone's life. There may also be opportunities for further learning and training.

Why This Role Is Different

  • Work alongside a supportive and welcoming family
  • Build meaningful relationships and make a genuine difference
  • Help someone maintain their independence and stay connected to the things that matter to him

What You Will Do

  • Assist with everyday household tasks
  • Support with shopping and errands
  • Help with meal preparation
  • Provide practical support around the home
  • Help Mr P remain aware of and connected to his surroundings
  • Promote independence, choice and wellbeing
  • Provide companionship and support as part of his daily routine

About You

You do not need previous experience of hands-on British Sign Language, as training and support can be provided. However, you must be willing to learn and develop new communication skills.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient and understanding
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Positive and willing to learn
  • Comfortable building meaningful working relationships
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous but are not essential

Hours and Rate of Pay

  • 5 hours per week per Personal Assistant
  • Hours to be worked flexibly across the week, including weekends
  • Specific working days and times will be discussed and agreed at interview

Interested?

If you're reliable, patient and keen to learn something truly unique, this is an opportunity to develop valuable new skills while supporting Mr P to live the life he chooses. We would love to hear from you.
