The Directorate of School Professional Services provides support for three Academic Schools. The Directorate is composed of Registry, Technical and Administrative teams. The focus of the Directorate is to provide an outstanding service to all of our users, supporting and enhancing the student experience.
SPS Technical Services are now seeking to appoint a Technical Officer to support the delivery of GCU programmes in our Electronic Engineering Department. While working within a well-established team of technicians, the successful candidate will be required to adhere to established procedures and deliver support for the day-to-day operational needs of our electrical and electronics laboratories.
Candidates should be educated to degree level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or possess equivalent relevant experience. Candidates should also have excellent oral and written communication skills, have the ability to work both individually and as part of a team. Additional criteria for this role include the ability to design, construct and fault find electronic circuits.
Candidates should also be able to program, at a basic level, hardware which utilises FPGAs and small embedded processors; these devices are increasingly being used for teaching/research within Electronic Engineering. This role also requires the successful candidate to provide support for activities run in Electronic Engineering’s computer labs. To this end, candidates should be experienced in the installation and configuration of software tools in a Windows networked environment. An IT qualification is desirable but is not essential.
It is also a requirement that candidates should have a strong understanding of health and safety policies/procedures in a laboratory setting. A formal, accredited, H&S qualification is desirable but not essential. Candidates should be able to work on their own initiative and have the ability to manage conflicting workloads.
