Advert Glasgow Caledonian University is proudly one of the UK’s most dynamic and forward-thinking institutions. This role sits within Research and Knowledge Exchange Services (RKES) – a directorate bringing together expertise from research operations, researcher development, and knowledge exchange. As Research Operations Manager, you’ll lead a dedicated team at the heart of this transformation. You’ll be part of a university investing in its people, infrastructure, and partnerships to grow its research profile and deepen engagement with industry, communities, and policymakers. This is a strategic and hands-on role that offers the opportunity to influence how GCU responds to a fast-evolving research landscape and to shape the operational backbone of research and knowledge exchange at GCU.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a dedicated team within RKES to deliver a high-quality, customer-focused research operations service that supports researchers across the university.
  • Shape and deliver systems, policies and processes that are fit for the future; work closely with academic and professional services colleagues, and external partners.
  • Steer preparations for major sector-wide exercises; ensure compliance and quality across the research portfolio; foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to drive innovation, service excellence and effective operation of research and knowledge exchange activities.
  • Apply strategic thinking and people leadership to manage complex operations and respond to a rapidly evolving research landscape.
