The Directorate of Estates and Facilities Management (E&FM) is responsible for the management, operation and strategic development of the University estate. The team ensures that safe, effective and sustainable environments are maintained for all students, staff and visitors, while supporting the University’s long-term vision for a modern, responsive and sustainable campus.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Estates and Facilities Health and Safety Manager to lead the development, implementation and monitoring of health, safety and compliance across the University’s Estates and Facilities Directorate. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the University maintains the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance and risk management across the campus estate.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Estates and Facilities, you will act as the lead specialist advisor on health, safety and statutory compliance matters across the directorate. You will develop and maintain robust systems, policies and procedures that ensure the University estate operates in full compliance with relevant legislation and best practice. You will play a central role in fostering a positive safety culture, ensuring that staff, contractors and stakeholders understand their responsibilities and actively contribute to maintaining a safe working and learning environment.

About You

You will be a confident and knowledgeable health and safety professional with strong experience managing compliance within a complex operational environment such as estates, facilities, construction or infrastructure. You will bring:

  • Ability to demonstrate experience of delivering appropriate health and safety services.
  • Ability to demonstrate extensive experience at a managerial level.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of complex situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Effective leadership and team working skills.
  • Effective organisation skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Effective communication skills including negotiation, persuasion and influencing colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
  • The ability to exercise initiative and show a high degree of responsibility.

This role may occasionally require out-of-hours working to support operational or emergency requirements.
