The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for two skilled professionals to join Glasgow 2026. We are pleased to invite applications for the roles of City Volunteer Manager and City Operations (Volunteer) Manager. Supporting our Public Engagement or Games Services and Workforce teams respectively, you will lead the planning, coordination and operational delivery of city-based volunteer programmes for Glasgow 2026. This is a pivotal role that will be instrumental in ensuring volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, deployed and supported to deliver a world-class Games experience.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Lead Community Engagement Manager, the City Volunteer Manager will oversee volunteer workforce plans near competition venues and on public event sites. Reporting to the Head of City Operations, the City Operations (Volunteer) Manager will oversee volunteer planning and delivery within distinct operational areas within the city, responsible for volunteers based at accommodation sites and transport hubs.

In these roles you will be determining volunteer requirements, developing role profiles, supporting recruitment and selection, designing training and briefing programmes, managing deployment, and ensuring volunteers are recognised and supported throughout their Games journey.

Key activities include leading the end-to-end planning and operational delivery of volunteer programmes within your designated functional area, working closely with City Operations, Public Engagement, Venue Operations and other Functional Areas to assess volunteer requirements, define roles, and confirm headcount needs. You will identify training requirements and collaborate on the design and delivery of role-specific training and briefings, manage volunteer rostering and deployment, using volunteer management systems to maintain accurate records and deployment data.

Key Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have significant experience in volunteer management, workforce planning or event operations, familiar with delivering volunteer programmes within major events, sporting events, festivals or similarly complex environments. You will be skilled in managing multiple workstreams in a fast-paced operational setting, and working with volunteer or workforce management systems and databases. Strong project management and organisational skills will be essential, complemented by strong analytical and reporting skills. You will bring strengths in leading and motivating teams, with the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
