The Role
We are seeking a City Operations Manager to join our Operations team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of major sporting events. In this role you will bring together functional areas from across the Organising Company ensuring that all elements of planning needed to integrate with the local authority departments, services and utilities are streamlined. The main objective of this role is to encourage integration of cross organisational planning and communication processes. You will own the holistic view of our touchpoints with the city.
Job Summary:
You will own the holistic view of how Games operations interface with the city, leading cross organisational coordination, developing trusted relationships, and ensuring the right information flows at the right time. Your work will involve integrating multiple operational workstreams, mapping regulatory requirements, coordinating city wide impact assessments, monitoring parallel events, supporting the delivery of city activation, and aligning planning with areas such as transport, accommodation, public engagement, spectator experience, and safety and security. You will represent the Organising Company at Host City forums, operational meetings and multi agency groups, while also playing a key role in public-facing communications in partnership with our engagement teams. Throughout, you will ensure that the city and its partners maintain a unified, efficient and future proof approach to Games delivery.
Key Skills and Experience:
- You will bring detailed understanding of the ways of working of a local authority, either from working in partnership with a Council and/or from direct experience.
- You will have practical experience in major events, city events and/or operational planning, and an understanding of city operations, city services and/or the regulatory and operational role of the Council as part of major event delivery.
- Your professional experience will be complemented by excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- A problem-solver with a positive, solutions-focused mindset, you will be confident in identifying risks, challenging plans constructively and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Knowledge of Glasgow and experience in multi-sport events, such as previous Commonwealth Games, would be highly advantageous.
This role may also be suitable as a secondment opportunity. We will welcome applications from external candidates interested in a secondment arrangement. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a high-impact role and make a valuable contribution to the Games.
