We are a multi-discipline consultancy providing engineering, design and surveying expertise to the construction industry. Our teams deliver professional advice across all stages of a project, supported by extensive experience across a wide range of sectors. With established offices in Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Bristol and Cambridge, we are continuing to grow and are seeking a highly motivated and capable Structural Engineer at Associate Director level to join our Cambridge Structural Engineer team.

This role requires a proactive, self-starting individual with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop client relationships and win new business to grow the current team. You will lead and deliver structural engineering projects from conception through to completion, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative team environment while demonstrating the ability to work independently and take initiative. You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including new builds and refurbishments across multiple sectors, and play a key role in the continued growth and success of our consultancy.

Responsibilities
  • Commercial and Business Development: Develop new client relationships across the Oxfordshire region and beyond, leading to an expanding workload and a larger team. Identify opportunities for new business and cross‑selling services. Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities to promote services. Support business growth by contributing to proposals and fee preparations.
  • Project Leadership and Delivery: Lead and manage structural engineering projects across various sectors (e.g., residential, commercial, educational, science, research, manufacturing and retail). Oversee the full project lifecycle, including design, documentation and delivery, ensuring all work meets quality standards and deadlines. Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Identify and resolve technical challenges efficiently, applying innovative solutions where appropriate.
  • Client and Stakeholder Management: Act as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring their requirements are understood and met. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Attend and contribute to client and design team meetings, representing the company professionally. Build and maintain strong client relationships, promoting repeat business and identifying new opportunities.
  • Technical Excellence and Quality Assurance: Provide expert technical input on structural design principles and best practices. Review and approve the work of junior engineers and Revit technicians, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance. Promote and adhere to quality assurance procedures, seeking opportunities for continuous improvement. Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards and health & safety regulations. Maintain and promote technical excellence through training and continuing professional development.
  • Team Collaboration and Mentoring: Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, contractors and other engineering disciplines. Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and encouraging their development. Contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture, promoting knowledge sharing and innovation.

Qualifications: Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent). Chartered status (ICE or IStructE). Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in structural engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment. Proven experience delivering structural designs for building and infrastructure projects. Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., Tekla and Tedds). Working knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes, British Standards, Building Regulations and Building Safety Act). Experience with BIM methodologies and an understanding of Revit is advantageous.
