Glanville Environmental is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Reactive Maintenance to lead the operational delivery of all reactive and fast‑tracked projects across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, and the Isles of Scilly. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest industry standards while meeting internal and external KPIs. This senior leadership role combines technical expertise in civil engineering and “no‑dig” technologies with exceptional people management skills. You will mentor and develop your team, drive operational efficiency, maintain strong client relationships, and identify opportunities for business growth.
More about the role:
- Lead and inspire reactive maintenance teams to deliver projects 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, including CDM 2015 regulations and company procedures.
- Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and performance against KPIs.
- Approve and manage non‑standard repair solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement and implement best practices across operations.
- Manage recruitment, training plans, and annual appraisals for your team.
- Monitor project costs and support commercial teams with accurate reporting.
- Maintain strong client relationships through regular progress meetings and clear communication.
- Contribute to tenders and pricing strategies.
- Promote a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration.
- Utilise work management software to optimise site activities.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of accidents, incidents, and hazards.
Qualifications:
- Managerial experience in civil engineering/utilities.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Financial and commercial awareness.
- Expert knowledge of sewerage and potable water networks.
- Proficient in CDM 2015, LOLER & PUWER regulations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Project, Excel).
- Valid UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- CITB SMSTS certification.
- HNC/D in Construction or Civil Engineering.
- Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor experience.
- Confined Space qualifications and NRSWA Supervisor units.
- Pollution Control & Emergency Spill Response knowledge.
- NEBOSH or equivalent health & safety qualifications.
- Managers CSCS.
- EUSR Water Passport and National Hygiene Card.
