Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who can demonstrate the following attributes:
- Commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
- In‑depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical water and wastewater treatment works processes and equipment, including pumping systems.
- Strong communication skills to interact with other engineering disciplines and clients.
- Ability to produce clear and concise mechanical design deliverables across all design stages of a project.
- Ability to manage design delivery and project manage.
- Leadership skills to manage and motivate individuals to consistently deliver.
- Willingness to contribute to and develop technical knowledge networks.
- A drive to be abreast of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions.
- Flexibility to travel within the UK (including Northern Ireland) and Ireland.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Design Manager and part of a multi‑disciplined team of engineers responsible for producing design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants.
- Assist in all aspects of mechanical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
- Production of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment, hydraulic calculations and production of detailed design construction drawings.
- Project manage third‑party designs and provide design assistance to installation and commissioning teams.
- Liaise with clients and subcontractors.
- Work as part of a team to support project delivery function, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
- Ensure Design, Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to.
- Monitor design delivery performance and efficiency, adjusting and reacting as necessary to achieve targets and keep the MIDP up to date.
- Produce mechanical design outputs as required and ensure Glanua & the Clients’ Technical Requirements are met throughout the design.
- Conduct regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources, monitor the plan and adjust as necessary.
- Monitor and update Design Change Control and liaise between Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil & Structural Designers.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 1 year experience.
- Minimum qualification: Level 7 (incl Diploma & Ordinary Bachelor Degree).
