The Opportunity
At Glanbia Performance Nutrition, we are looking for a Senior RTD Product Development Technologist to join our R&D Team. In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of new and exciting liquid RTD products for our European and International products portfolio, from concept creation to implementation in factories. You will lead the liquid development workstream, ensuring robust technical expertise is applied to gain a competitive advantage and deliver liquid solutions right the first time.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development of new liquid protein shakes and sports nutrition drinks from concept to commercialization, including some lab work, trials, and productions.
- Lead small-scale initiatives such as process improvements, value engineering, flavour extensions and ideation sessions with flavour houses and co-manufacturers.
- Support production sites by providing manufacturability guidance and contributing to continuous improvement projects.
- Act as a subject matter expert, contributing to building relationships with key suppliers and advancing our knowledge and capabilities.
- Build effective collaborative partnerships with Marketing, Supply Chain and Suppliers, providing direction to cross-functional teams.
- Lead liquid scale-up and implementation of new formulas in our internal and contract manufacturing facilities.
- Create accurate and high-quality documentation, including product briefs, timelines, liquid workbooks, test plans, reports, specifications, and IP protection.
The role is Middlesbrough based but with flexible working from home arrangements (50%). We will consider remote to site applications too.
Qualification & Experience Requirements
- Skills in RTD product formulation are essential.
- Skills and interest in process scale-up from laboratory to factory are essential.
- Understanding of pilot plant operations and how to trial products using one is desired.
- Skills in shelf life testing are desired.
- Specific knowledge of beverage formulation, ingredients, and processing is desired.
- Effective leadership skills are essential.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, including relationship building, facilitation, and written/verbal communication skills.
Ideal Requirements / Qualifications
- 3-5 years R&D experience.
- A Degree in Food Science or equivalent is essential.
- Product development and organoleptic assessment skills in RTD.
- HACCP knowledge & Food Safety awareness.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook) and SAP if possible.
- Personal interest in Sports Nutrition.
- Creative mind willing to try new ways of working.
- Ingredients knowledge a distinct advantage.
- Excellent communication & negotiation skills.
- Excellent project management and time management skills.
- Accuracy & attention to detail.
