Marches Biogas is based in Ludlow Shropshire. We are the UK’s leading provider of anaerobic digestion solutions for agriculture and waste management industries with more than 30 years AD experience. We also offer AD consultancy services including DSEAR assessments, site surveys, process and equipment selection reviews, design and implementation of plant upgrades as well as delivering major AD plant upgrades for our clients, including direct work with the water utilities. We also deliver mechanical, biological and operational support for many AD plants within the UK.
Main Purpose of the job
To act as Mechanical Designer and Project Engineer for various projects, ensuring workable mechanical designs are produced in 3D and 2D CAD for a range of anaerobic digestion related projects. The role will involve close coordination with both the process engineer and site installation teams to ensure a fully integrated design is produced. To become involved during the site installation to ensure that good engineering practice is adhered to, on‑going technical queries are dealt with in a timely fashion and both good and bad experiences are fed back into future designs to ensure we learn from our experiences.
Specific roles to include:
- Provide initial conceptual arrangement drawings for proposals and develop into 3D models and 2D general arrangement drawings.
- Provide mechanical design input to ensure the design outputs are achieved on time, meet the design requirements, and achieve an acceptable level of quality.
- Ensure that this design is fully integrated & coordinated with the process engineer, civil designer and electrical engineer.
- Read and review relevant specifications and incorporate feedback to ensure that the mechanical design incorporates all requirements.
- Identify potential technical improvements and cost savings for the work packages.
- Act as project engineer in managing and coordinating work packages and associated deliverables to include design, procurement, site liaison.
- Provide mechanical design support throughout the project (feasibility outline design, detailed design construction and commissioning).
- Develop best value, robust design solutions which can withstand external challenge.
- Understand and communicate mechanics design risk and assumptions associated with the project and support the design team in managing this risk.
- Record the risks and assumptions as the project progresses.
- Offer technical guidance and governance for design review meetings and assessments to ensure that risks and hazards are designed out or minimised to an acceptable level.
- Share best practise and good / bad experiences with other designers and relevant staff.
- Provide technical guidance during the installation phase of project construction to ensure that mechanically it is installed safely and in line with requirements.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with the client’s representative, sites, office staff and suppliers and key subcontractors.
- Record both good and bad experiences involved in the project and ensure that this knowledge is shared with the design team and other relevant Marches Biogas representatives.
- Perform any other duties consistent with the role including any ad‑hoc projects.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum BTEC / HNC Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience using Autodesk 3D and 2D CAD packages.
- Ability to develop conceptual arrangement drawings and high level architectural images at proposal stage.
- Ability to develop detailed pipework and mechanical support details.
- Ability to adapt plans to changing circumstances.
- Ability to follow designs through from the initial outline phase through to site installation and commissioning.
- Good communication skills.
