Our Mechanical Solutions division provides support to energy and industrial sectors globally, specialising in mechanical products and services including heat exchanger repair and refurbishment and onsite machining. We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in either Washington, Aberdeen Altens, Glasgow or Dinnington.
Role Purpose
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the delivery and assurance of high-quality mechanical designs across Glacier Energy, ensuring full compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and statutory regulations. The role provides technical leadership across mechanical design, documentation, and third-party approval processes, supporting safe, compliant, and commercially effective engineering solutions while working closely with customers, internal stakeholders, and the wider engineering team to deliver projects to agreed quality and schedule commitments.
Accountability
- Produce mechanical designs, including any beneficial alternatives, P&IDs, equipment sizing and subcontract equipment specifications in accordance with industry standard specifications such as ASME and PD5500.
- Produce all documentation in relation to PESR & PSSR requirements.
- Control all documentation to and from 3 body partied and check information is being approved in a timely manner and is correct to requirements.
- Checking of drawings in relations to customer specification and mechanical design, Responsibility for making sure the drawings and design conform to the customer specification.
- Assist with draughting work as and when required.
- Ensure designs being produced are developed and correct and can be produced in a mechanically sound manner.
- To ensure that all work under their control is completed to agreed scheduled target dates.
- Fully ascertain, understand and address all customer requirements.
- Liaise with customers to question, clarify or development their requirements.
- Provide technical support to sales engineers as required for meeting, development and proposals.
- Identify training and learning opportunities to manager.
Requirements
- Degree in related Chemical or Mechanical engineering discipline.
- Degree modules in thermal and/or mechanical.
- IT literate with specific experience using Microsoft Programs.
- Confident to engage with all levels of the business.
- Efficient and accurate with attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn from others and share knowledge.
- Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
- Proactive, flexible with a 'can do' attitude.
