We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in either Washington, Aberdeen Altens, Glasgow or Dinnington.

Position Role Purpose

The Technical Graduate will support the delivery of high-quality thermal process and mechanical design solutions across Glacier Energy, working closely with experienced engineers to develop designs that meet customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The role provides a strong technical foundation across thermal and mechanical engineering disciplines, contributing to safe, compliant, and commercially effective engineering solutions while developing the skills and knowledge required to grow within the Glacier Energy engineering function.

Accountability

  • Carry out all work in a manner that protects the health, safety and welfare of self and others, in line with company and statutory requirements.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including quality, safety, environmental and HR standards.
  • Produce thermal process designs in accordance with customer specifications and relevant industry standards.
  • Develop mechanical designs, including P&IDs, equipment sizing and subcontract equipment specifications, in line with standards such as ASME and PD5500.
  • Ensure all designs are technically robust, accurate and capable of being manufactured in a mechanically sound manner.
  • Manage and deliver work packages to agreed schedules and quality expectations.
  • Fully understand, clarify and address customer requirements, liaising directly with customers where necessary.
  • Provide technical input and support to sales engineers during bid, proposal and client engagement activities.
  • Actively collaborate with colleagues to drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and working practices.
  • Identify personal training and development needs and proactively communicate these to management.

Requirements Person Specification

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, with modules covering thermal and mechanical disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in technical and design work.
  • Ability to work independently using own initiative while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Proactive, flexible and adaptable, demonstrating a positive "can-do" approach.
  • Confident in engaging with colleagues and stakeholders at different levels of the organisation.
  • IT literate, with experience using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
