Have you ever read a "Buy me a beer" open-source license and wondered how that works for a massive global enterprise? As open-source software consumption grows, so does the complexity of managing it. We are partnering with a top-tier global giant seeking an Open Source Licensing expert. This role is essential for safely managing the intake and use of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) across complex engineering pipelines.
They need someone to bridge the gap between their Software Engineers and their Legal department. Engineers understand code quality and security, and legal understands the law, but neither fully speaks the other's language.
What You’ll Do:
- Act as the human-in-the-loop: Our client has automated tools that categorize software (safe, banned, etc.), but complex or quirky licenses get flagged for human review. You will be that expert.
- Advise engineering teams directly on what open-source components they can and cannot use, and explain why.
- Manage the risks and legal implications attached to complex copyright and "copyleft" clauses within a highly regulated environment.
- Analyze outputs from scanning tools (like Nexus IQ or Black Duck) to identify missing or incorrectly reported data.
Who We’re Looking For:
You are a self-starter who understands software licensing terminology. A background touching on software development, DevSecOps, Compliance or copyright law is highly advantageous. You should ideally have some prior experience of working with or for large, multinational or regulated companies.
If you have a strong grasp of open-source mechanics and want to shape licensing controls at an enterprise scale, apply today to schedule a discovery call.
