The Database Solutions Specialist (DSS) is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and administrating Oracle Server databases. This role ensures the optimal performance, security, and availability of databases to support organisational objectives and business needs. The DSS will work with development teams, system administrators, and IT professionals to improve database performance, implement standard methodologies, and resolve issues., Database Design and Implementation
Plan and implement installations, upgrades, and migrations including cloud ones. Standardise management to improve system administration and operational efficiency. Collaborate with developers to craft and optimise schemas, queries, and indexes.
System Administration
Improve infrastructure for better performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Use monitoring tools to address performance issues proactively. Resolve bottlenecks and tune queries, indexes, and configurations.
Security and Compliance
Implement and maintain security standard processes. Perform regular updates, patches, and security configurations, minimise downtime and ensure data integrity.
Maintenance and Support
Provide support for database issues, including on-call support. Monitor growth and plan for future capacity. Offer technical support and fixes for internal teams. Document configurations, procedures, and steps to fix issues., Additional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
Professional Experience
Proven track record as an Oracle Database Specialist or similar role.
Technical Expertise
Solid grasp of Oracle Server architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
Experience with backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, and applying standard methodologies for database security. Experience in query tuning, index optimisation, and performance improvement.
Cloud Migrations and Centralisations
Familiarity with cloud-based database services, architecture, and standard methodologies for scalability and performance. Proven experience in migrating databases to cloud platforms or centralisations. Ability to plan and carry out database centralisation projects.
Certifications and Additional Skills
ITIL Certification (useful)
Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) (useful)
