Job Summary: It’s great to know you’re making a difference to the future of aviation! Whatever part you play you’ll be helping us deliver operational excellence to our customers. At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. We are currently searching qualified fitters to operate as multi-skilled, flexible workers to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency within our areas.

Successful applicants will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:

  • Precussion riveting
  • Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools
  • Setting structures in build jigs
  • Deburring of structures
  • Fettling using approved setting tools
  • Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium
  • Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU)
  • Part Marking + Identifying

How You'll Contribute:

  • Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
  • Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
  • To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)

What You'll Bring: To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

  • Essential:
    • Must have a recognised indentured apprenticeship (level 3 in fitting or a similar relevant field)
    • Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
    • Ability to work to standard operating procedures
  • Desirable:
    • Previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft production environment
    • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
