At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.
We are seeking a qualified level 2 PFD Operator to undertake non-destructive testing & penetrant processing inspection of components to identify surface defects. The successful individuals will be required to work on both manual and automated penetrant testing lines as part of a team of up to 12 PFD Operators within our IMF facility and need to be flexible as the role will involve working shifts.
Day shifts: (07:00am - 18:45pm) + 25% Shift Allowance
- Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday
- Week 2: Thursday, Friday
How You’ll Contribute:
- Accountable for recording value stream tasks within the site Risk Assessment Management tool with the risks being accurately recorded and controls put in place to help reduce the risk.
- Ensure parts are produced on a right first time basis.
- Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date.
- Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system.
- Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader.
- Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures.
- Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974.
- To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval).
- Performing the tasks, learning, understanding and working to the governing specifications.
- Ensure compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities.
- Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions.
- Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s).
- Champion Export Control compliance activities, ensuring adherence to the site Technology Control Plan (TCP), guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems.
What You’ll Bring:

- Essential:
- Certification, or obtained training, as an Internal or External Auditor through a certified Training Partner.
- Possess the necessary personal attributes/behaviours to act in accordance with the principles of auditing as described in ISO 19011.
- Demonstrable domain knowledge of Aviation Regulators (EASA, FAA etc.) & contracted customer quality requirements.
- Knowledge and general understanding of the key manufacturing and support function activities conducted at Filton and ideally Western Approach.
- Knowledge in the use of risk based methods and techniques (ISO 31000) for audit planning and management.
- Demonstrable experience in Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) Techniques in order to provide effective audit follow up / closure assessments.
- Experience in undertaking Internal Audits against the audit process requirements defined within ISO 19011.
- Demonstrable knowledge of AS13100 and the associated reference materials.
- An effective communicator both written and verbally with experience in MS applications/tools.
- Desirable:
- Continuous improvement foundation training or equivalent training.
- Industry experience within a Manufacturing environment (APQP) preferably aerospace/automotive.
- Thorough understanding of the content and application of the IAQG / EAQG ISO Standards and IAQG SCMH.
- Experience in the use of the IAQG OASIS database for the input to audit planning.
- Knowledge of Business Process Management and the APQC Process Classification Framework.
- Knowledge of AS13100 and the associated reference materials.
