Due to a continued growth in business, we have an exciting and career defining opportunity for a Level 2 NDT Technician to join the team at the Western Approach site. This site is an International Centre of Excellence in composite wing structure design and production, manufacturing composite wing spars and Fixed Trailing Edge assemblies for some of the world’s most popular aircraft. The successful applicant will inspect and evaluate the A350XWB and A400M carbon wing spars and their associated components throughout the manufacturing process. These inspections will utilize semi-automated and manual phased array and conventional pulse-echo ultrasonic testing techniques. You will work a 7‑day fortnight shift pattern (06:00 am – 18:00 pm) and receive a 28 % shift allowance.
The pattern is as follows:
- Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday
Responsibilities
- Conduct Semi-Automated, Manual Phased Array and Manual Pulse-Echo ultrasonic inspection of carbon fibre composite wing spars and components.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements.
- Maintain aerospace quality standards.
- Support the NDT Level 3 team as required.
- Communicate with customers and suppliers when necessary.
- Prepare and submit reports on Non-Destructive Testing activities.
- Read engineering drawings and apply mathematical calculations for various formulae.
- Apply understanding of composite manufacture within the aerospace industry.
- Adhere to aerospace quality standards.
- Work independently and collaboratively to improve NDT processes and documentation.
- Ready to work at customer sites as required.
Qualifications
- Documented evidence of classroom training and work‑experience hours sufficient to obtain an EN4179 Level 2 qualification in ultrasonic inspection of carbon fibre composites.
- Proficiency in reading engineering drawings.
- Mathematical proficiency for utilising and transposing relevant formulae.
